New fabric ground cover alleviates residential flooding problems

MiniPak from Terram is a geotextile product to combat the problems caused by the widespread concreting and paving over of British gardens which is leading to flooding and environmental issues.

In a recent Mori survey commissioned by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) and the Horticultural Trade Association (HTA), it was revealed that in most regions of Great Britain, 30% of British households with a front garden have paved over most, or all of it. Unlike soil, concrete cannot absorb rain water and the excess run-off caused by sealed paving or concrete drives can increase by as much as 50% contributing to localised flooding and other environmental problems.

Terram, a world leader in geosynthethics for over thirty years, has developed its MiniPak as a robust geotextile fabric for use in residential and domestic situations. The fabric is placed over the soil before porous paving or stone is put down and, because of its open texture, it allows water to drain through to the subsoil whilst at the same time preventing weed growth. Allowing water to get into the subsoil has become increasingly important especially in the South East of the country. As a ground cover beneath topsoil, the fabric enables shrubs to be planted wherever required. The fabric also prevents intermixing of layers such as subsoil and aggregate.

MiniPak from Terram is a handy size bag containing 50 square metres of robust geotextile fabric which is easily laid and cut to size. As well as for use under paving, it is also ideal for drives, paths and roads, play areas and for use around underground drainage.
