Addastone makes the grade

Addagrip’s Addastone resin bonded surfacing has provided an important finishing touch to the City of Bristol College Ashley Down Centre, forming part of a £25 million project to refurbish Grade II listed buildings to provide a state-of-the-art centre of vocational excellence.

The college’s listed status along with its busy everyday use meant Bristol-based contractors, Oasis Environments Limited, had to find an external pathway surfacing solution that could meet tough criteria.

The surface had to be extremely hardwearing, easy to maintain with pathways able to withstand daily foot traffic in excess of 9,000 students and regular vehicular traffic use on the semi-circle driveways. Aesthetics were equally important as matching the Bath stone window and door surrounds retains the heritage look.

On specifying Addastone, Mike Shorland, Contracts Director for Oasis Environments Limited, explained, “Addastone met all our clients requirements and has a reputation for easy application and excellent life span. Also, using buff coloured Addastone resin with a golden pea aggregate we were able to complement the colouring and texture of the existing local Bath stone.”

Over 2,000 square metres of Addastone were used for the project. The surface creates the up-market appearance of loose gravel, yet once cured and properly swept, has none of the problems associated with loose gravel due to the resin bonding. It combines a traditional, natural look with modern benefits of safety, durability and easy maintenance. Available in a variety of colours and textures, Addastone is an excellent choice for aesthetic durability.
