Bosch, The Independent and The Royal Academy of Engineering launch writing award for young people

Bosch, The Independent newspaper and The Royal Academy of Engineering have joined forces to launch The Independent Bosch Horizons Technology Award, a writing competition for young people with an interest in engineering and technology.

As a global brand and a leader in innovation, Bosch is supporting Britain’s future engineers by offering them an excellent opportunity to share their interest in engineering and technology with thousands of readers. They are being asked to put pen to paper in answer to, ‘What is your vision of the next technological revolution?’

The competition is aimed at two age groups; 14-18 and 19-24 year olds. The younger group will be asked to submit 500 words and the older category, 750. Competition winners will receive cash prizes; £750 for the winning article in the 14-18s and £1000 for the 19-24 year olds. Their words will also be published in The Independent’s ‘Education and Careers’ supplement. Schools who send in the highest number of entrants will receive book vouchers and Bosch hampers.

Experts from Bosch, The Royal Academy of Engineering and other organisations will be writing columns promoting the ideas and the technological vision behind the award. The scheme is planned as one of many to raise the profile of Bosch as a prominent player in engineering and technology.

‘Innovative technology is the driving force behind the success of prospering industrial enterprises such as Bosch,’ says Bosch UK’s Managing Director Robert Meier. ‘Successful innovative work is unthinkable without people: enthusiastic people, who put their energies into making a great idea reality.’

The UK headquarters of Bosch is in Denham in Buckinghamshire. Around 500 people are based at the site which houses the power tools, automotive aftermarket, original equipment, car multimedia and security systems product divisions as well as 16,000 square metres of warehousing.
