CIOB Partners Manchester Business School for Construction Scholarships

Manchester Business School Worldwide has launched the competition for scholarships to the School’s MBA for Construction Executives.

The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), in partnership with Manchester Business School Worldwide (MBSW), are each offering a 50% scholarship to a chartered member for entry to the business school’s unique MBA. MBSW is the distance-learning arm of Manchester Business School.

The scholarships, worth over £6,000, will be awarded by MBSW through a competition in which applicants will be required to submit an electronic presentation based on a case study.

The scholarships competition is based on the new Scottish Parliament Building. The scholarships are for entry to the course in July 2006 and details of when the entries have to be submitted are on the MBSW website. MBSW academics and representatives of CIOB, RIBA and RICS will assess competition entries. The winners will be informed in June 2006.

Saleem Akram CIOB director said, “The MBA is designed to provide construction executives with the tools to move into senior management. We are excited to be involved in this venture and believe that it provides a wonderful opportunity for our members. With the Scottish Parliament Building as the scholarship topic we can expect some very interesting presentations. “

In the inaugural competition in January 2006, Thompson Kapapa of John Doyle Construction limited was the winner of the RICS MBA for Construction Executives Scholarship, with Francis Henderson of Sturgis Associates winning the RIBA MBA for Construction Executives Scholarship.

The MBA programme was developed in partnership with CITB-ConstructionSkills and through consolidation with the leading industry bodies, and is designed to appeal to managers within all construction disciplines, from surveying and engineering through to managing the process.

“RIBA Practice is delighted to be working with MBSW on this initiative. The MBA is undoubtedly a valuable tool, and to have one designed specifically for those in the construction industry is a great bonus. To be able to help one of our members win such a generous scholarship is immensely gratifying,” said Adam Williamson, Practice Projects Manager, RIBA PRACTICE.
