Carillion plc - Pioneers Pegswood bypass project

Support services and construction company Carillion will be celebrating on Thursday March 15 at the official opening launch of Pegswood bypass – completed over two months ahead of schedule.
Carillion has successfully completed the major £9.37m road scheme which aims to cut congestion in Northumberland.
The pioneering project on the A197 in Pegswood is the first phase of a project to create a cross-country connection between the A1 trunk road and the Ashington area aimed to cut congestion through Morpeth and Pegswood.
The scheme aims to divert thousands of vehicles from the congested Castle Morpeth village via a single carriage way and will also create a fast route from Ashington to Morpeth and the A1.
Villages had to share Pegswood with around 9,000 vehicles a day. It is estimated that the bypass will reduce traffic in Pegswood down to around 1,000 to 2,000 vehicles a day.

“We are delighted to have completed this part of the project ten weeks ahead of schedule and to budget which is down to the commitment and hard work from all those involved in the n3 Partnership.”
The on-going n3 Partnership, which includes Northumberland County Council, Carillion and Faber Maunsell provides a one-stop shop to design and build major road schemes.
The route also includes a new bridge, made from the same weathering steel as the Angel of the North, across the East Coast Main Line.
