ISG Jackson hands over Enfield ExtraCare Facility

ISG Jackson has successfully completed its £5.6 million project to construct Skinners Court, a purpose-built ExtraCare housing facility in Enfield, North London, for the Skinners’ Company. With 48 individual apartments and an impressive range of communal amenities, Skinners Court represents the latest generation of high quality ‘home for life’ accommodation schemes.
The Skinners’ Company is one of the ‘Great Twelve’ livery companies of the City of London. It has provided affordable homes for older people for well over 450 years. Today it works with Hanover Housing Association to manage its housing schemes. The Company secured funding from the Department of Health and the London Borough of Enfield for the Skinners Court development, which ISG Jackson built following the demolition of a former 1970s almshouse that originally occupied the site.
Skinners Court has been tailored to the specific needs and requirements of its residents, providing flexible and intelligently designed accommodation that promotes independent living within a supportive infrastructure. The building brings a comprehensive range of facilities under one roof, with an interior designer tasked with creating a familiar street scene for the in-house grocery store, hairdressing and beauty salon and health suite.
With characteristics that purposefully hint at the past to provide familiar and unthreatening surroundings, Skinners Court also embraces modern design philosophy with large, naturally lighted open spaces throughout the communal areas. An airy entrance portico leads into a lozenge shaped lounge area, with a large restaurant and a high specification cinema and café bar. An activity room provides residents with the creative space for a full range of art and craft pastimes. Other facilities include a library, gym, communal laundry and buggy store.
