Tyler-Parkes commended on planning for Lafarge HQ

The former West car park at Birmingham’s NEC, is to be unveiled as the new regional Head Quarters for construction giants Lafarge later this year. Completion of the 60,000 sq ft building is due in July 2007 and is the latest showcase project from commercial property developers Stoford.
Building work on the project began back in January 2006, although Tyler-Parkes were appointed some time before to manage the planning application for the £22 million site, which is set to bring as many as 300 new jobs to the area.
Tyler-Parkes working on behalf of property developers Stoford, realised the huge potential of the site for a Head Quarters facility and have been commended by Planning Officers at Solihull Borough Council in bringing the project to fruition.
Paul Watson, Head of Planning at Solihull Borough Council explains, “This is how the planning system should work – early and full pre-application discussions with the local authority to establish a clear picture of how a site should be developed, followed by multi- disciplinary working with all the stakeholders to detail proposals, which, as a consequence, gain planning permission quickly through an efficient and effective development control service.”
The challenge in planning and design terms of the new Lafarge HQ was to create a high quality, innovative design, which would ultimately draw on the maximum advantage of such a prime business location.
Gareth Jones added, “The team have worked hand-in-glove with the Council’s Planning  Officers to ensure that the objectives set were achieved and that the final result will produce an attractive and stunning building, situated in a popular business hub.”
Lafarge Head Quarters consists of a core structure, supported by a north and east wing. The interior of the building is made up of a vast vaulted concrete ceiling and cylindrical moulded pillars that were cast onsite using Lafarge concrete.
Dan Gallagher, Director of Stoford Developments commented, “Tyler-Parkes has worked tirelessly to secure planning permission for this site, it is a pleasure to work with such professionals, who have the extensive knowledge to make such projects happen.
