The Madano Partnership - World class projects sought for international award

04.04.07 - An international award celebrating the best in urban landscaping was launched recently, for its second year. Public and private organisations, planners and architects are invited to put forward groundbreaking projects which demonstrate the latest thinking in urban redevelopment and design.
The International Urban Landscape Award (IULA) 2007 seeks to raise the profile of projects which enhance inner-city open spaces, including residential blocks, mixed-use developments and redesigned neighbourhoods. Innovations in terms of sustainable development and economic and social integration will be expected.
After a successful launch in 2006, IULA is open this year to projects implemented in EU countries, the USA, Canada and Mexico. The projects must have been completed no earlier than the year 2000. A 50,000 Euro first prize is on offer, with the money planned to benefit the community in which the winning project is located.
The award is sponsored by Eurohypo AG, together with Topos – the International Review of Landscape Architecture and Urban Design – and A&W – Architektur & Wohnen.
“The design of public spaces is an important issue for people’s quality of life, and is something we are keen to highlight and contribute to”, says Imke Schiller of Eurohypo. “This award celebrates intelligent urban design, and we hope that submitted projects will become an inspiration to future developments around the world.”
Applications must be received by 31 May this year, with the awards ceremony taking place in Frankfurt in September. Full details of the entrance criteria and procedures are available from www.iula.com.
Last year’s award was presented to Riemer Park in Munich, a successful example of landscape design in a new urban area.
