Icopal takes honours at the RBM awards

Building membranes specialist Icopal has taken honours at this year’s Reinforced Bitumen Membrane (RBM) awards organised by the Flat Roofing Alliance (FRA).
Icopal’s new Profiles Pyrobar waterproofing system capped the awards tally by walking away with the Product Excellence Award while the company’s products helped contractor Richard Soan Roofing Services win Best Refurbishment Project up to 1,000m² and Roofscape (NW) Ltd to second place in Best Refurbishment Project over 1,000m².
Then Craig Mills, of Capitol Roofing, a member of the Intelligent Membrane Association (IMA) which Icopal founded, won Construction Skills Trainee of the Year.
This took Icopal’s tally at the seventh annual awards, at the Grosvenor Hotel in London on March 1st, to a total of four. No other manufacturer performed as well in as many of the six categories. This follows Icopal’s success at last year’s awards when it helped Helix Roofing win Best in Show for its green roof at Urban Splash’s MoHo development in Manchester.
Icopal’s Power SBS pour and roll system, Vapourbar vapour control layer, Thermazone PUR insulation and Technatorch mineral cap sheet were specified by Owen Williams Consultants for the 500m² re-roof of Surrenden swimming pool in Brighton that was completed by Richard Soan Roofing Services to a high standard within a short time scale.
Roofscape’s work at Archbishop Temple school in Preston using Icopal’s total torch vapour control layer, Thermazone PIR Plus and Technatorch mineral cap sheet specified by Cassidy & Ashton involved progressively removing then renewing the roof while the school remained fully functional.
Product Excellence Award winner Profiles Pyrobar is only available through Icopal to IMA members. This waterproofing system features SYNTAN™ Red vapour dispersion technology that replaces the conventional sanded surface. When the underlay membrane is bonded to the insulation, resin-free channels disperse vapour pressure over the entire roof area, eliminating blistering and premature failing of the waterproofing.
This innovative new system provides the technology to complete a quality roof system quickly, making big energy savings while keeping the entire roof structure safe from fire. One major breakthrough is that Pyrobar underlay requires 50% less torching, providing the opportunity for significant improvements in speed of installation.
The RBM awards were designed to recognise excellence in terms of installation, product performance and training and at this year’s event, no other manufacturer scored higher than Icopal.
