Chartered Institution of Wastes Management - CIWM Launches new award scheme to recognise environmental achievement
Many companies and individuals across
business and industry in the UK are taking significant steps to
improve environmental performance. The Chartered Institution of
Wastes Management (CIWM) has launched a new national award
scheme to recognise this environmental excellence.
The CIWM Awards for Environmental Excellence will acknowledge
the environmental performance and achievement of companies and
individuals in the resources and waste management industry as
well as other areas including retail, facilities management,
product development, construction and demolition and health and
safety.
"We have launched these awards to help recognise and spread good
or innovative environmental practice in the UK," said Steve Lee,
chief executive of the CIWM. "It is important that we
acknowledge environmental excellence so that it can influence
the way we all work and live our lives for a more sustainable
future."
The new award scheme will complement the CIWM's professional
awards which have successfully recognised academic environmental
achievement for 20 years.
Submissions for the Environmental Excellence awards can be made
across eleven separate categories. These are innovative practice
in waste and resources recovery, sustainable retailer,
sustainable product development, sustainable facilities
management performance, individual recycling champion, recycling
performance, vehicle and plant equipment, construction and
demolition and health and safety. There will also be an overall
award for environmental excellence.
Winners in these categories will be presented with an award and
certificate at a presentation ceremony hosted by TV presenter
Sophie Raworth at the Dorchester Hotel, Park Lane, London on 31
October 2007. They will also be able to promote their success by
incorporating a special CIWM Award for Environmental Excellence
logo on company stationery and promotional material.
Award submissions must be sent to the CIWM by 31 August 2007.
These should outline in no more than 1,000 words what has been
achieved and the positive impact for the environment. More
information on the categories and making a submission can be
obtained by contacting the Environmental Excellence team at the
CIWM.
