Bosch Security Systems - Bosch reports success at IFSEC 2007
Bosch President cites Video Content Analysis as an
exciting emerging technology that will greatly enhance
CCTV effectiveness
Bosch Security Systems is reporting an excellent
response to its technologies on show at the recent IFSEC
2007, with tangible enquiries from a cross-section of
quality installers, consultants and end-users interested
in its CCTV, Intruder and Communications technologies.
Along with Bosch’s extensive range of well-proven
products, the new generation Autodome modular camera
proved to be very popular over the four days of the
show, with installers and end-users alike. The
Generation 4 Autodome range uses intelligent,
interchangeable modules that enable installers to match
the dome performance exactly with their requirements.
The modules also mean that installers can update camera
functionality quickly and cost-effectively in the future
allowing end-users to migrate to more advanced
technologies without having the associated costs of
replacing the entire dome.
In a presentation made to key customers and invited
guests to Bosch’s stand, BSS President, Uwe Glock
addressed the continuing improvements in global
security, safety and communications and Bosch’s ongoing
commitment to it:
“The main driver of technology in our industry continues
to be the transition from analogue to digital, (IP or IT
convergence). Although it will take some years for the
huge installed base of analogue systems to make the
transition, the cost and feature advantages of digital
systems will make their way in the market. Along with
the transition to digital we see the continuing
integration of security systems, namely CCTV with access
control, as well as the increasing demand for
integration with other building management systems.
“An exciting emerging technology that is greatly
enhancing the effectiveness of CCTV security is Video
Content Analysis – VCA. We are developing algorithms
that are much smarter than the relatively simple video
motion detection algorithms of a few years ago. They are
capable not only of motion detection, but also of
detecting specific objects like dropped baggage,
direction of movement and even suspicious behavior such
as loitering – all in real-time. We call it the
Intelligent Motion Video Detection – IMVD – algorithm,
and we currently deploy it in our IP network products.
“IMVD suppresses false alarms in VCA systems caused, for
example, by moving tree branches, leaves, clouds,
shadows and falling rain and snow. The algorithm is also
capable of dynamically adapting to changes in background
so that alarms are triggered only in real alarm
situations. These intelligent sensor algorithms are
based on results from Robert Bosch joint research
facilities that share resources and projects among the
various Bosch divisions.
“Yet another recent development for Bosch is the DECT
6000IP secure messaging and telephony system that has a
capacity for over 6000 handsets and 255 base stations –
particularly interesting to large and multi-site
organisations.”
Bosch’s stand had a purpose-built demo-suite giving
product managers the opportunity to explain and
demonstrate the technology. In addition to the Gen 4
Autodome, Bosch took the opportunity of promoting a wide
range of different technologies including, Professional
Series intrusion detectors (ideal for commercial sites
and indoor industrial applications), its Easy Series
(more suited to smaller commercial and residential
premises) and its trusted Praesideo system from its PA/VA
range.
Commenting on the success of the show, Jeremy Hockham,
UK Managing Director of Bosch Security Systems,
concluded: “2007 has been the best IFSEC for Bosch in
recent years. The show not only remains to be the
perfect place to demonstrate how we are maintaining our
competitive edge through new technology but also to
showcase how easy our new products are to install.
Through the many meetings at the show, with existing and
new customers, we were able to build on the work we have
done to explain the benefits of working with Bosch, and
our long term commitment to the UK Security Market ”
