Development Securities PLC - Starts construction at West Quay
III in Southampton with Carnival UK’s headquarters
Development Securities announces today the official start of
Phase 1 construction at its mixed use West Quay III development in
Southampton.
Construction will commence on the new headquarters for Carnival UK
providing approximately 150,000 sq ft of flexible office space over
five floors, including a full height atrium and Wintergarden break
out area.
Carnival UK, one of Southampton’s largest employers, is currently
housed in a number of offices and buildings in the local area. This
project will consolidate operations into central premises ensuring
that it continues to operate successfully in the future.
Development Securities is working in partnership with Southampton
City Council and Miller Construction to deliver this project.
The Mayor of Southampton, Councillor Stephen Barnes-Andrews,
delivered an opening address at the launch ceremony:
“This project is one of many new developments taking place, which is
confirming Southampton as a regional centre for business, with large
companies choosing the city to be the location of their
headquarters.”
Duncan Trench, Development Securities, said:
“The construction of Carnival’s headquarters is a prestigious
project that unlocks the potential of the site and shall lead to the
next phase of development providing speculative office space, homes,
a hotel and ancillary retail units in the heart of Southampton.
Steve Hart, Regional Director for the South, Miller Construction,
said:
“We are delighted that Development Securities has awarded us the
contract to build Carnival's new headquarters. We have extensive
experience in developments of this kind and are confident that we
can deliver excellent results."
It is intended that the Phase 1 project development will be
completed late summer 2008 at a cost of more than £45m.
