ISG Jackson - ISG Jackson docks with £5.9 million education project

ISG Jackson has secured a £5.9 million project with the University of Gloucestershire to build a new teaching and student accommodation block for the Urban Learning Foundation (ULF) on the East India Dock Road in London. The ULF offers postgraduate training qualifications for newly qualified primary school teachers and is the base for the Graduate Teacher Programme (Primary) in North East London.
ISG Jackson has commenced construction of the six-storey concrete frame building on a site adjacent to the ULF's existing facilities, to provide the Foundation with additional teaching and residential capacity. The ground floor of the new block provides three large teaching rooms, a café and administrative offices. The remaining five floors are given over to accommodation for 91 individual student rooms with en-suite facilities, including five specially designed rooms for disabled students.
Externally, the new building features curtain walling with terracotta cladding to its façade and the scheme has been specifically designed to reduce its impact on the local environment. ISG Jackson will install photo voltaic cells on the roof to harness solar energy and a rainwater harvesting system, which uses stored water to flush toilets within the building. The project is scheduled for completion by July 2008.
