Icopal - Two revolutionary systems to debut for Icopal's
acoustic systems
Two groundbreaking systems – one of
which has candidate Robust Detail status while the other
fills the gap left by the suspension of E-FC-3 – the
Robust Detail for pre-cast concrete, floating screed
separating floors – will debut at Housebuilding 07 for
Icopal’s market-leading Monarfloor Acoustic Systems.
Monarfloor Bridgestop and Tranquilt will showcase the
division’s stand (M59) at the show at London’s Business
Design Centre from October 9 to 10 when visitors will
get a first chance to get up close and personal with
these step changes in acoustic insulation.
Members of Icopal’s technical team, which is the largest
of its kind in the UK, will man the stand throughout the
show to advise visitors how the second generation
systems can help them meet the requirements of Part E of
the Building Regulations.
Bridgestop is a system that prevents acoustic bridging
commonly caused by mortar build-up between separating
walls, and sound transmitting wall leaf to wall leaf via
the slab. The system has cleared its first hurdle in
gaining candidate RD status with Robust Details Ltd.
By isolating both leafs of the party cavity wall from
mortar collecting at the base, and isolating the wall
base, Bridgestop allows the use of a continual raft
foundation between attached dwelling houses which is not
currently accepted within Robust Details. The system
also ensures the robustness of gas membranes where used
on contaminated sites. Bridgestop can also be used on
beam-and-block and in-situ floors.
With 70% of new build now on brownfield sites where
contamination may require raft foundations or gas
barriers, the Bridgestop system is likely to prove
invaluable to housebuilders and developers who can
achieve three to four credits towards the Code for
Sustainable Homes by using it.
The research project behind this innovative solution has
been developed in association with The Building
Performance Centre (BPC) at Napier University,
Edinburgh. Under PCT testing, Bridgestop has achieved up
to 61dB DnT,W + Ctr which significantly increases
airborne performance for current Robust Detail E-WM-4
walls.
Tranquilt is a lightweight, one-part acoustic system for
new–build and refurbished party floors that is set to
slash installation times. So workable it can be laid
like carpet, it is ideal for specifiers and contractors
looking to fill the gap left by the suspension of E-FC-3
– the Robust Detail for pre-cast concrete, floating
screed-separating floors.
Being only 10mm thick and supplied in a 1.5m by 20m
roll, it is supremely easy to store, transport and carry
and is simply loose laid over a structural concrete sub
floor to receive a screed finish. Once laid however, its
superb dynamic stiffness prevents collapse under the
weight of the overlaid screed. Its one part system with
integral flanking detail ensures robustness.
Where Part E site tests for impact sound involving
separating floors between dwellings and rooms for
residential purposes demand 62dB or lower, Tranquilt
delivers up to 37dB L’nT,w, and where airborne sound
tests demand 45dB or higher, Tranquilt delivers up to
62dB DnT,w + Ctr
In addition to Bridgestop and Tranquilt, the Monarfloor
stand will reflect the company’s position as the
supplier of the largest range of lightweight FFT
(Floating Floor Treatment) systems in the UK. These
range from deck overlay systems to battens and cradles,
for timber and concrete floors and steel constructions,
all incorporating low resonance acoustic chips (LRACs)
which do not deteriorate over a building’s lifetime.
