Maris Interiors - Fit-out jargon explained in new Maris guide
Maris Interiors, the office design and fit-out
specialist, has launched a new guide for those who feel
mystified by the terminology involved in an office move
or refurbishment. ‘The Maris Guide to Fit-Out Jargon’
aims to explain all the confusing language and
abbreviations used in the industry and clear the way for
a stress and jargon-free fit-out.
Whilst many industries have their own technical terms
and phrases, this can make it difficult for those
approaching a project for the first time, who aren’t
familiar with their meaning. In the case of an office
fit-out, which can be challenging at the best of times,
wading through a mountain of jargon can make it even
more stressful.
Michael Howard, Chairman of Maris Interiors, commented:
“We know that the fit-out industry can often bamboozle
clients with complicated lingo that makes them feel
confused and stressed out. How can you make a decision
about something when you don’t understand what the
choices are?
“An office fit-out is an important investment, which
impacts an entire business and its employees, so it is
imperative that companies are clear on the process and
options before diving in head first. ‘The Maris Guide to
Fit-Out Jargon’ aims to translate many of the terms you
will come across so you can ‘talk the talk’ like the
professionals!”
Most confusing jargon includes:
· Bolthole – Quiet areas within the office
· Borrowed light – Light within an area that has an
original source in another room or area and not directly
from an external natural light
· CGI – A computer generated image
· Comfort Cooling – System that can cool the air in a
building
· Fenestration – The style or arrangement of the window
elements in a building
· Hub – An office area designed for social or casual
integration
· Project champion – A senior member of the client’s
team who will take overall responsibility for the
project
· Snagging list – A list of minor works and defects
outstanding that require completion by the contractor
· Touchdown zone – An area of the office for visitors,
consultants or mobile staff allowing phone and network
access for laptops
· Zen Room – An area free of technology designed to be
used for quiet time and research
