The Newcastle office of international project managers and cost consultants Faithful+Gould is celebrating project managing a planning application for a major north east regeneration project.

Having worked on major regeneration schemes throughout the length and breadth of the country this latest contract sees the office further boosting its portfolio on its home patch.

Working for Barratt Newcastle and Haslam Homes, Faithful+Gould has undertaken a project management role on the application for the £60 million housing scheme which will regenerate the Hardwick housing estate in Stockton.

Once completed, the impressive development will comprise 626 homes. This figure will comprise 273 Haslam and 273 Barratt homes and 80 Endeavour homes. The Endeavour Housing for rent on the proposed estate will meet identified Government housing aims, as well as maintaining and strengthening the local community and delivering a mixed tenure community.

Pooling all their resources to ensure the application would be completed in such a short timescale, the developers and the design team worked very hard to deliver the project on time.

“Following the submission of planning application by architects Gray Fawdon and Riddle, we worked very closely with Stockton Borough Council to gain approval for the scheme in such a short time frame. As the size of the scheme is significant I am delighted with the standard of service we delivered.

“Drawing upon our vast experience of regional regeneration projects we were able to project manage an application which is focused on the requirement to balance local authority affordable and commercial housing needs.

“I am very much looking forward to seeing the completed estate in 2012.”

Once complete, the Hardwick Estate will benefit from home zones. Home zones are designed primarily to meet the interests of pedestrians and cyclists rather than motorists. A home zone develops street designs that make drivers feel it is normal to drive slowly and carefully. Features include traffic calming, shared surfaces, trees and planting. The estate has also been designed as a Garden Village, with leafy avenues and decorative railings inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement.

The professional team delivering the project is made up of master-planners Ian Darby Partnership, architects Gray Fawdon and Riddle, landscape architects Southern Green, and infrastructure and services engineers Queensbury Design.

The design team has been working in partnership with Stockton Borough Council for over two years before the decision was taken to apply for planning permission.
