Health and safety has been placed firmly at the top of the agenda at the Newcastle and Stockton offices of international project management and cost consultants Faithful+Gould after one of its senior safety consultants has become one of the first people in the UK to be placed on an exclusive register.

Malcolm Shiels, senior health and safety consultant, is one of the first Faithful+Gould staff members nationally to gain entry onto the Association for Project Safety (APS) Register of CDM Co-ordinators, a nationally recognised body.

The Register has been established following the implementation of the high profile Construction Design and Management (CDM) regulations in April which have brought the regulations into a single, more user-friendly, regulatory package.

One of the key changes to the regulations includes the appointment of the CDM Co-ordinator who will be commissioned to advise the client on discharging their duties as well as managing the co-ordination of the safe design and planning of a project.

Malcolm who also heads up the Newcastle safety team, said:

“I am really passionate about my role and proud to become one of the first people in the UK to be gain entry to the APS. I will be encouraging more of colleagues to follow suit.

“Not only am I able to bring an enhanced insight into project safety to my team, but Faithful+Gould’s clients will also benefit as APS registration is an assurance that we have gone through a rigorous external process to demonstrate that we can deliver expertise on high risk and complex projects.”
