Icopal Systems and Cemco join forces

Icopal, the UK’s leading manufacturer of construction membranes, has won an exclusive two-year supply chain partnership agreement with its counterpart in independent builders’ merchants groups - Cemco.
The deal positions Icopal, which brought together leading construction brands such as Andersons, Monarflex, Callenders and Vulcanite, as sole supplier of bituminous roofing felts to Cemco’s 25 members. Founded by four of them 14 years ago, Cemco now turns over £600million from more than 130 branches nationwide.
Working closely together, members provide instant access to materials for their customers by using other members’ branches where necessary. Under the partnership agreement with Icopal, Cemco members will benefit from guaranteed supplies, supply chain and logistical arrangements, and technical, marketing and training support.
Icopal’s range of cost-effective, guaranteed-quality, torch-on and pour-and-roll systems for all skill levels in new build or refurbishment, many of which are accredited by third parties such as the BBA and IAB, are in greater demand than ever by a construction industry facing an increasing number of onerous building and safety regulations.
This includes polyester-reinforced, SBS-modified membranes, insulation boards and vapour control layers which are applied using traditional methods - either torch-on or pour–and-roll – for both warm and cold roofs as well as complementary systems such as scaffold sheeting and tarpaulins.
Cemco’s heavy side trading director Chris Hopkins said: “Prior to Cemco awarding a new contract, it has to be certain the new supplier is in a position, not only to satisfy the ever-increasing demand for materials due to changes in legislation, but also be able to support the extra volumes required through Cemco’s strategic growth.
“From the assurances received and the continued reliability of service, coupled with continued innovation, Cemco had the confidence to award Icopal a two-year deal. Icopal has been successful in securing the Cemco business from Ruberoid.”
