Icopal Systems gives concrete floors a duvet day

A lightweight acoustic system for new–build and refurbished party floors that is set to slash installation times has been launched by Monarfloor Acoustic Systems, the subsidiary of Icopal.
The Monarfloor Tranquilt under screed system is so workable it can be laid like carpet – a major consideration for specifiers and contractors looking to fill the gap left by the suspension of E-FC-3 – the Robust Detail for pre-cast concrete, floating screed separating floors.
Contractors get even more help from Icopal in that the company’s technical sales force has been tasked with training installers on how to get the best from the product and this can take place on site.
Being only 10mm thick and supplied in a 1.5m by 20m roll, it is supremely easy to store, transport and carry and is simply loose laid over a structural concrete sub floor to receive a screed finish. Once laid however, it is its superb dynamic stiffness that prevents collapse under the weight of the overlaid screed.
Aimed particularly at screeders and pre-cast manufacturers but also specifiers, Tranquilt is a composite system comprising a layer of LRAC foam, sealed both sides with a polyethylene membrane, which is capable of exceeding the requirements of the Part E regulations in terms of impact and airborne sound insulation.
Where Part E site tests for impact sound involving separating floors between dwellings and rooms for residential purposes demand 62dB or lower, Tranquilt delivers 46dB, and where airborne sound tests demand 45dB or higher, Tranquilt delivers 56dB.
As an alternative to composite deck systems and rubber-based systems which are heavy and expensive, and Polyethylene which is rigid and difficult to install well, Tranquilt brings a revolutionary approach to the sound proofing of floors in multi-storey residential buildings.
