Knauf  Drywall - Aquapanel on show as top tilers test talent

Leading tile backer Knauf Aquapanel will be in the spotlight when some of the UK’s top tilers put their skills to the test in London this year. Aquapanel – the specially developed fibre-reinforced cement board for flawless tiling in wet areas – will provide a solid working surface for contestants chasing top honours during the Tile and Stone Show (1-3 July, at ExCeL). And just a few paces from the competition arena, Aquapanel will be the focus of Knauf Drywall’s show stand (F23).
The three-day competition, judged by experts from The Tile Association, will find the UK’s top fixers evaluated on accuracy and speed. Coupled with the time saving of Knauf Aquapanel, which comes ready-keyed to support up to 50kg/m2 of tiles immediately after installation, it’s a perfect combination for fast, quality tiling.
Knauf Aquapanel has a 10-year guarantee and is increasingly specified in residential units across the housing spectrum to avoid the cost and inconvenience of tile failures in showers, bathrooms or other wet areas. It is also used extensively on larger projects such as swimming pools, sports changing rooms and other public facilities. James Leaning, Knauf Drywall Technical Services Manager, says builders and bathroom installers are switching to Aquapanel to avoid call-backs to fix tile failures – and complaints from householders.
Interfacing seamlessly with other drywall constructions, Knauf Aquapanel is designed for use in buildings of all types where tiled walls are subject to frequent heavy splashing, such as in power showers. It retains its strength and will not rot or warp, even when fully immersed in water. Tested to new European EN standards, Aquapanel systems have achieved up to 60 minutes’ fire resistance and up to 53dB Rw airborne sound reduction. Aquapanel is installed on steel or timber studs in the same way as plasterboard, and needs no extra skills or tools. Aquapanel boards are produced in 12.5mm thickness and 900mm width, and are available in 1,200mm or 2,400mm lengths.
