CABE - Launch and call for entries for the 2007 Prime Minister’s Award for Better Public Building

Entries are being invited for the 2007 Prime Minister’s Better Public Building Award. Now in its seventh year, the award recognises both design and procurement excellence in building projects from across the public sector. Last year’s winner was the City of London Academy in Southwark.
Any new public building is eligible if it has helped to deliver public services more effectively. This includes schools, hospitals, libraries, museums and public spaces although the size and budget of the project are irrelevant and short listed projects in the past have also included a footbridge, a treetop walk, a memorial garden, roads and bridges and a public loo.
The award is run by CABE and the Office of Government Commerce and is a special category within the British Construction Industry Awards. Public bodies, architects and developers are urged to seek recognition for the building they are proud of, provided it meets the following criteria:
· uncompromisingly high standards in design, construction, delivery and operational performance
· has been completed since 1 January 2006 and come into use by 31 January 2007
· has been commissioned by or on behalf of central or local government or by a grant-aided organisation
