Church of England Children's Society - Little London wins Architectural Award

Little London, a Children's Society project in Leeds, was a double winner at the city's annual Architecture Awards. Its new community building scooped the New Building Award and the People's Award, with its down-to-earth design a refreshing change to skyscraper-dominated Leeds.
The Children's Centre, designed by Chapeltown-based architects Bauman Lyons with a build spend of £1.9 million, is an innovation in areas like energy usage, and the use of slate and stained timber instead of traditional brick cladding.
The project has been led by The Children's Society and Leeds City Council.
The two-storey building is home to a state of the art multi-functional children's centre in one of Leeds' renowned inner-city areas. It offers a host of facilities to improve the lives of its community. Many families with young children will benefit from the new services, which range from health drop-ins and counselling, to jobs and housing search and carer support.
The Children's Society's Mandy Williams, assistant director said,
"We are thrilled to have won the award and to receive such recognition for an innovative building that houses an outstanding project. One, which is well used, offering a broad range of activities, which meet the local families needs. We have a very close with partnership with children & parents, who were significantly involved in developing the project."
