S&P Coil Products Ltd - SPC chosen to heat Olympic Judo Hall
Specialist manufacturer and supplier of heating
equipment SPC (S&P Coil Products Ltd) has beaten off
competition to supply radiant ceiling panels at a UK
judo club that will be used for the 2012 London
Olympics.
The Leicester-based heating experts were chosen to
supply 40 specially-made Thermatile Plus panels for the
hall of the new SKK Judo Club in Earlestown, Merseyside.
The £650,000 club will be used for training by an
international judo team before it competes in the 2012
Olympics.
The radiant panels, measuring 295mm x 2995mm and 295mm x
1995mm, have been fitted at a 45 degree angle along
steel ceiling joists, freeing up the wall and floor
space of the hall for judo classes. The panels have been
made in the same cream colour of the ceiling, so they go
virtually unnoticed.
The project contractors, Liverpool-based A & B
Engineering Building Services, said they chose S&P Coils
over other suppliers because of the high quality and
competitive pricing of the panels.
The devices have a unique linear strip panel joining
system meaning they can be fitted by nearly anyone –
cutting down on extra labour costs. They also have a
composite aluminium sheet structure, providing a rigid
flat panel which can be made to any specified size,
shape and colour to enhance the architectural design of
a room.
Nigel Donohue, performance coach of SKK Judo Club, said
he was delighted with the radiant panels:
“They are great because we are out of the way for
classes and you can hardly tell they are there. Value
was a very important factor for the club hall and we are
glad we have got the best deal from SPC.”
QED, the Bolton-based consultant designers of SKK Judo
club, chose radiant panels because they are one of the
most efficient and space saving forms of heating.
The ceiling mounted devices emit radiant heat to warm
room occupants directly and the air indirectly,
resulting in lower heat losses and energy savings. The
tiles can either be suspended just below a ceiling, or
fitted into a suspended ceiling, freeing up valuable
floor and wall space.
“SPC’s radiant panels were the best for this job,” said
Ian Bridge, managing director of QED. “They look great
and you would not know they were there.”
SKK Judo Club has been funded by Sports England. It
boasts a judo hall, changing rooms and administrative
facilities. It will officially open on September 23.
