Kalzip To Cover An Olympic Hopeful
 Potential
Olympic athletes at S&P Architects’ new international
swimming pool in Corby, Northamptonshire, will have a
Kalzip roof over their heads when the building opens
next year.
Work on the £20 million project started last summer and
Teamkal approved sub contractor WWR (UK) will install a
total of 4,000m² of Kalzip aluminium profiled sheets in
a basalt grey matt finish this summer.
Sixty-metre lengths of Kalzip will run from eaves to
eaves and include a 3,000m² naturally curved roof
section and 1,000m² of wall cladding with a variable
radius of almost seven metres.
To be used as a training ground for athletes hoping to
compete in the 2012 Games, the Corby East Midlands
International Pool building will include a
50-metre-long, eight-lane pool with flume and diving
boards, a health suite, fitness area, dance studio and
café.
It is part of the Parkland Gateway Phase 1b regeneration
of Corby town centre. Corby Borough Council was seeking
a community facility and a landmark development that
would symbolise the new town and complement the £4
billion regeneration of the town centre.
