Metro Designs new Approach for Major Housing Association
 Metro
Design Consultants, renowned for creating contemporary working
environments for multi-national companies and major public bodies,
has just completed the refurbishment of Ujima, one of the most
influential black housing associations in Europe, and now part of
the London & Quadrant
Housing Trust Group. The offices are situated five minutes from
Wembley Stadium.
First stage work involved Metro Design consultants producing a
modern and secure call-centre and transforming the reception and
customer-liaison area to create a more welcoming and assuring space,
and improve communication and team interaction.
In the latest development, Metro has designed efficient environments
across four floors, creating effective open plan work spaces to
further empower the organisation to provide a modern environment for
200 employees, including breakout areas, quite rooms, and flexible
meeting spaces. The curved flowing walls, glass panels and clean
line storage systems help to maximise usable office space and create
more light in the building. African woods are used throughout,
alongside images of people depicting African culture, which creates
energy and enthusiasm.
Metro also installed a brand new conditioning, cooling, heating and
electric system and completed extensive ceiling and lighting
installation work. Metro will commence the next stage of the project
in February and will be completed by April 2008. Daniel continues:
"The major challenge was to keep the building completely operational
whilst the stripping out and refurbishment was taking place. This
also involved setting up the new Comms room, whilst maintaining
existing operations and working in a live server/communications
room."
