ISG SECURES HIGH PROFILE £4.1 MILLION BRADFORD PRIMARY SCHOOL PROJECT

ISG has commenced work on a £4.1 million project to build a replacement primary school for City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council. The new All Saints' Church of England Primary School will be built on a site opposite St Luke's Hospital in Bradford and represents a high profile investment by the council and the Diocese of Bradford to provide modern, high quality educational facilities within the city.
The two-storey steel frame school building will feature a distinctive glazed central atrium, which will link classrooms and also provide an additional space for teaching, as well as an impressive display area. The two form entry school and nursery will house 14 large classrooms and will also host a range of community areas and an external covered play area.

The contractor has worked closely with key stakeholders involved in the scheme to minimise the environmental impact of the new school, which aims to achieve a ‘Very Good’ BREAAM environmental rating. The school boasts an efficient computer-controlled natural ventilation system, to maintain consistent temperatures throughout the building and provide the optimum learning environment for pupils. Much of the material excavated during the construction of the school’s foundations will be re-used across the site and ISG will also retain the majority of mature trees growing in the location. The project is scheduled for completion by December 2008.

Once completed, we confidently expect that the school will quickly establish a reputation for excellence, with pupils learning in purpose built, modern facilities. The building has also been designed to become a focal point and important resource for the community at large.”

Andy Macdonald, the Council's Schools Organisation and Capital Strategy Programme Manager, said: "Sustainability has been an important consideration in the new school design, and the architect has assessed the environmental impact of the school building from the original design process through to construction and management of the completed school."

All Saints' new Headteacher Susan Hart said: "The children, parents and staff – indeed all our stakeholders – are very excited that the work is beginning on our new school. The whole project will be an invaluable resource for curriculum work now and in the future.”

The Rev Clive Sedgewick, Diocesan Director for Education, said: "This new school building offers the pupils, staff and community excellent facilities, enabling it to build upon the long and effective educational traditions and links with the church, which have been so much a part of All Saints' Church of England Primary School.
