WATERWISE MARQUE FOR ARMITAGE SHANKS’ WATERLESS URINAL

Armitage Shanks’ innovative waterless urinal, Aridian, has been awarded the highly-respected Marque from Waterwise, the leading authority on water efficiency.
Aridian joins just 15 other water saving products with the Marque, which was introduced in October 2006 and is the first award scheme of its kind, Marques presented for products which specifically highlight water efficiency or reduce water wastage.

The revolutionary waterless urinal needs no water and has no flush. Instead, it uses a cartridge filled with a perfumed liquid, which traps particles, preventing new odours and also preventing foul air rising from the drain into the washroom.

Tests have proven a significantly lower bacterial count on the surface of the bowl of a waterless urinal than in the flush variety – this is because water provides a breeding ground for bacteria so without water, the harbouring and growth of bacteria is prevented making the waterless option much more hygienic.

On average, each Aridian urinal helps to save a massive 87,000 litres of water per year – with a huge amount of urinals installed in service stations, railway stations, airports, theatres, cinemas, hospitals and other public areas and workplaces, Aridian saves tonnes of water, substantially reducing water and sewage costs.

Not only does Aridian save water and is more hygienic than flushing urinals, it is simple and therefore quicker, easier and cheaper to install, with no cistern, flush pipes, bottle trap or sensors to fit. The absence of such components means that Aridian also requires much less maintenance – on average, cartridges only need replacing quarterly. Full cleaning and maintenance instructions are included with all Aridian units, but to make it simpler still, Armitage Shanks’ maintenance partners can take care of it all.

In public places, sadly, vandalism is a consideration, so Aridian is available with an optional metal cover plate with anti-tamper screws, to prevent access to the underside of the unit.
Managers of places such as airports, where the urinals are in 24-hour continual usage, appreciate Aridian’s low maintenance needs, while Aridian’s waterless technology is effective in stadiums and concert halls where demand for washrooms is heavy during intervals, and its reduced odour and greater hygiene make it ideal for use in school and sports environments.

The waterwise Marque is a testament to Aridian’s waterless technology, and Armitage Shanks is delighted that Aridian has joined dishwashers from Bosch and Hoover, Twyford Bathrooms’ dual flush toilet and two of Hozelock’s innovative water-saving products, in the line-up of the 15 most recognised water efficient products.
