ISG JACKSON BRACED FOR SUCCESS AT THE ANNUAL CRAFTSMANSHIP AWARDS

ISG Jackson has once again been recognised for the excellence of its projects, winning a brace of industry awards from the Suffolk Association of Architects. The contractor scooped first prize in both the ‘New Building’ and ‘Major Alterations and Extensions’ categories at the Annual Craftsmanship Awards, to cap a record year for ISG Jackson at the gala event.

The awards, which are judged by a panel of the county's leading architects, recognise the very best in project management and delivery, and are only presented to those organisations that can demonstrate a clear commitment to quality and attention to detail.

ISG Jackson took the top accolade in the New Building category with its £3.7 million Exning Court housing facility, for client Sanctuary Hereward. ISG Jackson Special Projects secured first prize in the Major Alterations and Extensions category with its £850K scheme to design and build a new extension with a swimming pool at Latimer House - a high status, period property in Felixstowe.

Exning Court was highlighted as an excellent example of collaborative working practices, with ISG Jackson and the charitable housing association working alongside Suffolk Social Services and key stakeholder Methodist Care Homes, as well as funding partners the George Gibson Trust Foundation and the Housing Corporation, to deliver the outstanding 34-unit care scheme. The development has a high environmental sustainability rating and has achieved a 'very good' eco homes standard.

The building also bristles with the very latest assisted technology, enabling a range of monitoring devices to be connected to a central system – immediately alerting care staff if assistance is required. This technology enables elderly people and those suffering from dementia to live independently, whilst having access to a high standard of care when required.

The judges rated ISG Jackson Special Projects’ Latimer House extension as the best in the county due to the sensitivity of the development. To provide a sense of integrity and continuity with the original features of the house and gardens, the pool was designed specifically to mirror the shape of a fountain found within the grounds.

The extension was constructed to enclose the elegantly shaped half crescent moon pool, with a spectacular and complex roof structure completing this challenging project. The single-storey structure, whilst unmistakably modern, has been designed to sit sympathetically within its location, with a pitched, curvilinear roof design, featuring specially sourced triangular roof tiles.
