ISG JACKSON SUCCESSFULLY DELIVERS GROUNDBREAKING DARCY GARDENS DEVELOPMENT

ISG Jackson has successfully completed and handed over its groundbreaking £5.2 million Darcy Gardens ExtraCare residential development in the heart of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. The project has been an excellent example of collaborative working with a host of stakeholders partnering ISG Jackson on the scheme, including client Hanover Housing Association, Barking & Dagenham Council, as well as designers and the supply chain.

Darcy Gardens is a new community for the elderly, comprising 36 one and two bed flats within a central complex, surrounded by 16 one and two bed bungalows. The ExtraCare model provides more comprehensive care for residents than is associated with traditional sheltered housing, enabling frail residents to stay in their homes rather than be admitted to hospital or residential care homes.

Built on a land locked and unused allotment site within the Borough, Darcy Gardens is a model of sustainable ExtraCare development and features a range of innovative technologies to minimise its impact on the surrounding environment. The scheme includes a living green bio-diverse roof and solar thermal collectors to pre-heat water that is used in sinks, showers and other hot water applications within the building.

Darcy Gardens is also generating its own power with building mounted wind turbines providing carbon free electricity. As a result of these technologies, the housing scheme boasts a 10 per cent saving in carbon emissions through the use of renewable energy sources and has achieved a Bespoke EcoHomes ‘Very Good’ standard, which measures the environmental performance of buildings.

Community is a key element of the Darcy Gardens development and ISG Jackson has created a spacious public square, providing a central town space and meeting place for residents, with attractive hard and soft landscaping finishes completing the attractive ambiance.
