REED ROOFING WINS NATIONAL FEDERATION OF ROOFING CONTRACTORS
AWARD FOR ECO-FRIENDLY CEDARWOOD SHINGLE ROOF

Reed Roofing (Midlands) Ltd, part of the Copal Group, has won an
NFRC award for an enormously rare and complicated roofing contract
in a Birmingham conservation area.
Nominated by John Brash and Company for the award, it was received
for the best cedar shingle roof which was installed at All Saints
Medical Centre in King's Heath, Birmingham.
The roof is made from Cedarwood Shingles, which are eco-friendly and
come from sustainable timber and are much lighter than regular tiles
but have a long life. Their light weight and small size make it
possible for the roof construction to follow the architect's design.
"We're thrilled to have won the award," said Rob Keen, Managing
Director of Reed Roofing, based in Burntwood, Staffordshire.
"It's quite rare for us to get the opportunity to undertake a
project of this size using Cedarwood Shingles, so it's nice to be
recognised for being innovative at the same time as being
eco-friendly.
"Not only was this a new-build in a conservation area, but the
design was such that it was massively labour intensive because it
was such a complex design with roofing and tiling ranging from
shallow pitches to vertical tile hanging.
"We selected our most highly experienced hand-picked team for the
project, operatives with rare skills.
"It was something very different and an opportunity to exercise
skills and ability that are rarely seen in the roofing industry
today."
