£30m NHS LIFT Scheme in Hampshire achieves financial close

The £30m Local Improvement Finance Trust (LIFT) project to construct a new Primary Care Delivery Centre and replace an Adult Mental Health in-patient unit for the Southampton City Primary Care Trust (PCT) and Hampshire Partnerships Trust has reached financial close. The consortium delivering the project is the gbprimarycare consortium which includes contractor Osborne and is led by Assura Group plc.

The new purpose-built Primary Care Delivery Centre will be located on the Western Community Hospital site and will include an NHS walk-in centre, GP surgeries, practitioners with special interests, physiotherapy, a musculoskeletal clinic, space for advice sessions such as healthy eating and smoking cessation, and a pharmacy. This facility will improve the patient experience and move services closer to people's homes, while offering extended opening hours.

The new Adult Mental Health Unit on the Royal South Hants hospital site will provide a safe and secure therapeutic environment. A Home Treatment service will also be co-located with the inpatient unit to provide support in the community. The inpatient unit will provide 50 inpatient beds, a ten-bed psychiatric intensive care unit, therapy services and facilities to meet a range of needs.

The design teams have produced exciting and innovative designs for both buildings which will provide a first class environment for both mental health and primary care.”

Construction on site will commence immediately and the projects will complete in October 2009.
