Top safety accolade for builder
Builder Rok has scooped a prestigious international award for its
impressive commitment to health and safety.
The esteemed International Safety Award was given to Rok by the
British Safety Council following a rigorous examination of the
company’s practices by a strict independent adjudicating panel.
The award highlights Rok’s firm commitment to further improving the
health and safety culture within the organisation, including
impressive safety policies and plans. Among its latest initiatives
is a policy that all those working in situations where they might be
at risk of injuring or damaging their hands must wear gloves.
Shaun Davis, director for safety, health & environment, accepted the
award at a ceremony in London’s Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane.
Special guests at the ceremony included Chairman of the British
Safety Council, Nina Wrightson OBE and members of the Health &
Safety Executive and Health & Safety Commission, along with the
Minister for Health & Safety Lord McKenzie.
The accolade sees Rok well-placed alongside a number of large
multinational organisations.
Afterwards Shaun said Rok was working with the British Safety
Council to promote and encourage a much stronger emphasis on
‘sensible safety’ – tackling real risks in the workplace that cause
real harm and real suffering. He added that the company was
committed to achieving Five Stars under the council’s audit scheme
by 2010. Assessors have already visited the Rok offices across the
UK to examine procedures in the offices, on sites and among
technicians in vans, and have awarded three stars for the majority
and four stars for the South West.
Shaun said: “We’re really thrilled with these achievements which
demonstrate our ongoing focus on the implementation of safety
procedures.
“We believe in protecting and promoting the health, safety and
wellbeing of all our people and the communities we serve.”
For more than 50 years, the British Safety Council has led the way
in promoting a healthier, safer and more sustainable society. It
encourages organisations to make health and safety a top priority,
protecting their people and the working environment, and so
protecting their assets, investments and reputation.
