Faber Maunsell announces contract wins

The northern division of Faber Maunsell, the award-winning consultancy specialising in buildings, transportation and environmental services, has announced a number of multi million pound contract wins.

The innovative property team based at its Newcastle office is to provide a range of structural and mechanical and electrical design services on projects across the education, health and commercial property sectors. It has also been appointed to a highly creative arts project which is expected to be of huge public interest during the summer.

In the first of these contract wins Faber Maunsell has been appointed to provide an independent design checking service of the final structure of the innovative Bamboo Bridge, currently under construction. Designed by Bambuco, an Australian company that is famous for constructing bold, large-scale bamboo installations, the bridge will form the centre piece of the Summer Tyne Festival, part of Newcastle Gateshead's world class festivals and events programme.

In the higher education sector, the consultant has secured its first appointment with Newcastle University, under its Consultants Framework Agreement. The team will deliver structural and mechanical design services on both refurbishment and new build projects, which are to be carried out as part of its £200million programme of works. The appointment is initially for two years with an option to extend for a further two.

In the commercial sector working on behalf of Stockton based developer Jomast, Faber Maunsell has been appointed to provide structural design services on an ambitious, £29million, mixed use scheme to redevelop a 3.3 hectare waterfront site at Hartlepool Marina.

Finally, County Durham based property developer, Arrow Commercial Ltd, has appointed Faber Maunsell in a multi-disciplinary capacity on its forthcoming £10millon mixed use development scheme in Sunderland. The Edge, Scotia Quays, as the development will be known, will provide innovative public spaces including an exhibition space, high quality office and residential accommodation.

Speaking about the Newcastle office's success across such a broad range of projects, Faber Maunsell's regional director, Keith Armstrong, said:

"This latest series of contract wins is great news for the Newcastle team and clearly reflects the depth of resource, expertise and capabilities of our buildings team. I also believe that it clearly demonstrates the diversity of projects clients ask us to work on which I am confident will lead to repeat business.

"In the case of Bambuco's Bamboo Bridge, it is fantastic that Faber Maunsell has an association with such creative, unique projects. We have the largest bridge design services in the north east and is therefore quite fitting that we should be involved in the, albeit temporary, eighth bridge to span the River Tyne. Appointments such as this are supporting our ongoing development strategy in the north east and as we continue to bid for work, further announcements will be made regarding contract wins and staff appointments."
