DLG Architects - Planning granted and Andover development

Architects has secured planning permission from Test Valley Borough
Council to deliver a new landmark multi million mixed-use
development in Andover, Hampshire. On behalf of its client Fenchurch
Investments Ltd, DLG has drawn up plans to radically transform the
3,300 sq m Ford Cottage site at the corner of West Street and
Chantry Street to deliver a new gateway attraction for Andover Town
Centre.
The modern scheme which is to be called Theatre Plaza, due to its
close proximity to the Andover’s renovated theatre ‘The Lights’,
includes a new 50 bed hotel, 120 residential apartments and 850 sq m
of retail/leisure units that will become restaurants and cafés. A
new central public courtyard will provide links towards the Chantry
Centre and will be further enhanced by public art.

to have achieved planning consent for this regionally significant
site as it has stood derelict now for over 15 years. We have taken
the time to consult extensively with the local council and key
stakeholders to ensure innovative and high quality building designs
that are wholly appropriate for the site. It is hoped that Theatre
Plaza will provide a sustainable new quarter for this historic
market town and further kick start regeneration projects in the town
centre.”
The proposals also ensure the sustainable future of the Grade II
listed Ford Cottage by relocating it into a more historic setting
adjoining St Mary’s Church and restoring it as a single residence.
With planning consent now granted it is expected that construction
work will start on site early this year.
