Polyflor - Styles and safety for Durham’s LIFT hospital

High style low maintenance Polyflor Mystique PUR heavy duty sheet vinyl flooring from commercial flooring specialists Polyflor Ltd is featured throughout wards and corridors at the new build £10million Richardson Community Hospital in Barnard Castle, Co Durham.
The flooring, in a variety of shades, was installed by local flooring contractor Professional Flooring Services Ltd who also fitted Corona and Hydro sheet vinyl safety flooring - from the Queen’s Award for Enterprise winning Polysafe collection - in hospital bath and shower areas.
The hospital is funded through Care Partnerships 25 Ltd, a joint venture company owned by the private and public sectors, and is part of the government’s LIFT programme to facilitate improvements in primary care and community healthcare.
Non-directionally patterned Polyflor Mystique PUR is available in 16 decorative shades and features a high quality polyurethane reinforcement which, combined with a superior closed surface finish, facilitates a low cost, polish-free maintenance regime for the lifetime of the flooring, achieving savings of up to 48% compared with untreated vinyl flooring. The flooring also achieves the highest possible “A” rating under the BRE Green Guide to Specification scheme.
Combining the latest advanced performance and maintenance technology with a superbly fresh colour palette, Polysafe Corona incorporates Supratec+, the second generation of Polyflor’s unique soil releasing polymer system, now including polyurethane for reduced dirt pick up, even easier maintenance and cleaning cost savings of up to 60% over traditional safety flooring.
As well as meeting the performance requirements of EN13845 and being BBA Agrément certified as G5ws, Corona provides sustainable slip resistance throughout its guaranteed life, achieving 36 on the RRL Pendulum wet test (Four-S/Slider 96 rubber). This, combined with a surface roughness of
Rz 20µm, ensures that Corona complies with Health and Safety Executive guidance and with EN 13845, the European Norm for Safety Flooring.
Specially developed for continually wet/barefoot areas, Polysafe Hydro features a special textured “pimple” emboss which is ideal for walk-in showers, indoor pool surrounds, changing rooms and hydrotherapy areas.
Polysafe Hydro offers an attractive range of eight light, aqueous colours available with a multi-chip or traditional decoration and is designed to co-ordinate with other Polysafe shades for a seamless transition between adjacent use areas. The use of coloured quartz, aluminium oxide and silicon carbide particles throughout the product thickness enables the range to offer sustained slip resistance for the guaranteed life of the product as well as conforming to EN 13845 Barefoot.

EN 13501-1, certified as Class Bfl-S1, achieving the criteria EN ISO 9239-1 8kw/m² and the mandatory requirement of EN ISO 11925-2 pass.
All have also been independently tested and results demonstrate that they inhibit the growth of MRSA. An effective cleaning regime is, however, the most important defence against infection. In addition, and in common with all Polyflor sheet vinyls, the floorings can be welded at the seams and to coved skirtings to create continuous, impervious surfaces that offer no sanctuary to dirt and bacteria.
