SES - Announces a serious of major contract wins
 Specialist mechanical and electrical (M&E)
contractor, SES, has announced a series of major contract wins for
its north east office, on projects with a combined value of
£51million.
The schemes, which are across a number of sectors, reflect SES’s
growing stature in the region.
Working with new client, building contractor, Tolent, SES has been
appointed to provide M&E installation services on a PFI scheme to
construct two new libraries on the sites of the old City Library
located on Princess Square in the centre of Newcastle and High
Heaton Library.
Although work is now underway at the City Library project SES will
not commence its role until January 2008. In order to deliver the
project in a timely fashion and on budget, the contractor will use a
sophisticated prefabricated and modularised method of installation.
In the leisure sector, SES has been appointed by Shepherd
Construction, on a new four storey, 180-bedroom £21million hotel
under construction on a site adjacent to Newcastle International
Airport, formerly occupied by Hertz Rent a Car. This appointment
will call upon the contractor to deliver, M&E and public health
installation services.
A third prestigious contract is being undertaken as part of the
£9million Great North Museum redevelopment project, of the former
Hancock Museum, which is being constructed by Kier for the
University of Newcastle. SES will install a new prefabricated
plantroom as part of the M&E services in the Grade II listed
building.
Speaking about these latest contract wins and the move towards
prefabricated installation, SES’s operations director, Steve Joyce
said:
“I am delighted to be able to announce these latest contract wins.
Each one presents us with a different challenge and with that, an
opportunity to showcase our experience and ability to deliver truly
workable solutions. In the case of the City Library, the scheme has
been designed using a ‘chilled beam’ system to heat and cool the
building. This system is particularly useful in a library
environment where maximising the available wall space for book cases
etc is imperative whilst also offering an energy efficient solution.
The M&E services will be prefabricated to allow for easier
installation.”

Since opening its north east office in 2003, SES has created some 80
jobs. Turnover for this year stands at £16million and it is
anticipated will grow to £20million next year.
