The Architecture Foundation presents the Winter Nights 2008 talk
series
In August 2007 The Architecture Foundation sent
half a dozen young British architects to showcase
their talents stateside at an exhibition, New Practices London in
association with the AIA New York
Chapter's Center for Architecture.
Now their Big Apple counterparts, all have whom were featured in a
previous exhibition curated by the
AIA, New Practices New York , are completing this transatlantic
exchange with a series of talks in
London for The Architecture Foundation.
The aim of the Winter Nights series is to provide a platform for
exciting, emerging practices to
communicate their ideas, thoughts and ambitions for the future, and
present their existing commissions.
Chairing the events will be representatives from four of the young
UK practices who worked on the first stage, New Practices New York,
including WORK Architecture Company, Architecture in Formation PC,G
TECTS LCC / Gordon Kipping Architects and Gage / Clemenceau
Architects.
Wednesday 23 January
Gage / Clemenceau Architects
Speaker: Mark Foster Gage
Chair: Kevin Carmody, Carmody Groarke
Recently described by the American Institute of Architects as the
“Future of the Architecture Profession
in New York”, Gage / Clemenceau has attracted critical and
professional praise for their sensuous and
progressive designs. Established in 2003 by Mark Foster Gage and
Marc Clemenceau Bailly, the six-person
New York firm has conceived both built and unbuilt projects on a
variety of scales, from
snowboards and seating to residential renovations and civic
institutions. Their work has been exhibited
widely and in 2007 was featured in exhibitions at The Museum of
Modern Art in New York (June) and
the Art Institute of Chicago Museum (December). Having lectured
nationally and internationally, Mark
Foster Gage is an enthusiastic speaker looking to spread his ideas
and thoughts about the nature of thearchitect’s role in design from
the small and everyday to the large-scale.

G TECTS LCC / Gordon Kipping Architects
Speaker: Gordon Kipping
Chair: Tom Emerson, 6a Architects
A Canadian native living and working in New York, Gordon Kipping
brings his original training in
engineering to his architecture, giving him an in-depth knowledge
into the actual mechanics of building
design. While still working for other, larger practices he produced
conceptual and built work under his
current company name. Working independently gave him the freedom to
investigate his interest in the
influence electronic information technologies have on architecture
and led him to author a book on the
subject. Currently Kipping is working on another publication
entitled Home Entertainment – Home
Broadcast whilst acting as Adjunct Assistant Professor at the School
of Architecture at Columbia
University, where he teaches an advanced design studio, and
regularly assisting Frank Gehry in
teaching a design studio at the School of Architecture at Yale
University. Since 1999 Kipping has been
dedicated to G TECTS LLC / Gordon Kipping Architects, designing
spaces for a variety of clients from
the Issey Miyake Madison Avenue flagship store to the Stockholm City
Library.
