4 Urban - Bingley’s 5rise gets the Green Light
 Formal planning permission
has been granted for local developers 4Urban to remodel the tired
Myrtle Walk Shopping centre, into 5rise a retail and residential
destination in the heart of Bingley.
4Urban submitted the planning application in September 2007 setting
out plans for a re-modeled retail infrastructure and the addition of
a residential complex containing 86 apartments.
They also outlined plans for providing Bingley with a modernised and
further enhanced library facility contained within the 5rise complex
and will also be contributing towards a purpose built, modern market
facility in Bingley’s town square.
The applications were approved yesterday and 4Urban intend to
commence work on site, Summer 2008.
The decision recognises the substantial long-term benefits that
5rise will deliver to the local area, including an enhanced retail
offering, reasonably priced housing and a new improved library
facility that the town was desperately in need of.
Richard Holmes, 4Urban Development Director and Bingley resident
said: “Receiving planning permission is great news and a huge step
forward for Bingley. 5rise has been recognised for its regeneration
value and the leap it makes towards the Airedale Masterplan, not to
mention the benefits it will bring to Bingley’s economy.”
“We look forward to beginning work next Summer and if the process
runs smoothly we anticipate completing the development within
approximately eighteen months.”
Head of the Bradford district's regeneration, Coun Andrew Mallinson,
said: "This is fantastic news for Bingley and its people who have
been waiting a long time for the Myrtle Walk shopping area to be
redeveloped and brought up to date.
"Once completed, the 5rise development will provide a great place
for people to live, shop and socialise, and will really complement
the rest of the work that is currently taking place in the town,
such as the new town square."
The planning application was granted subject to a section 106
agreement.
