Wolverhampton Development Company celebrates official launch
 Mayor and Minister join local guests to support
city’s growth
The recently formed Wolverhampton Development Company (WDC) has
celebrated its launch with an official opening event.
Held at Wolverhampton’s historic Chubb building, the event was
opened by Chairman of WDC, Graham Mackenzie and the Mayor of
Wolverhampton, Councillor Trudy Bowen, welcomed Iain Wright MP,
Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State of the Department for
Communities and Local Government, as the guest speaker. Leaders from
the council and business communities attended to support the launch
and to find out more about WDC’s proposals.
Set to make Wolverhampton a city of regional, national and international significance, WDC is working with partner
organisations to increase the pace, scale and quality of development
opportunities across the city.
WDC Chairman Graham Mackenzie commented; “We were delighted to have
the opportunity to introduce Wolverhampton Development Company to so
many guests at such an exciting time for the city. We have hit the
ground running and are looking forward to helping Wolverhampton
realise its full potential.
“Our aim is to make Wolverhampton one of the most successful cities
of the 21st Century and so the Minister’s support is particularly
welcome at this important early stage in our work.”
Junior Housing Minister Iain Wright, who leads on all aspects of
housing policy and programmes, town and country planning, physical
and housing-related regeneration and urban policy and design added:
“Since their launch over seven years ago, Urban Regeneration
Companies across the country have gone from strength to strength in
bringing regeneration benefits to our towns and cities. From
Camborne to Cumbria, communities are seeing the transformation of
their environment and benefiting from the economic development that
local authorities and their public and private sector partners have
together delivered.
“The Wolverhampton Development Company will bring great benefits to
the city and I wish everyone involved all the best for the future.”
