Buttress Fuller Alsop Williams - Work Starts On Rhodesia House
 One
of Manchester’s forgotten gems is about to be given a new lease of
life with work starting on the remodelling of Rhodesia House in the
city centre.
Renamed 52 Princess St, the Grade II listed building has been
re-designed by one of the North West’s leading architectural firms,
Buttress Fuller Alsop Williams.
The work will see layers of interior additions stripped back to
reveal original features like cast iron columns, timber beams, open
fireplaces and original brickwork hidden for many years will be
exposed once again.
Buttress Fuller Alsop Williams specifically designed the interior of
the building, owned by Bridge Properties Ltd, to attract interest
from Manchester’s expanding media and creative sectors. Director
Gavin Sorby said: “We wanted to bring the building back to life, not
only in terms of usability, but also to give the interior space its
own character once again.
“A listed building transformed by sympathetic architectural design
often provides the character and ‘wow factor’ that an end-user
client is looking to achieve from its business space.
“Such buildings provide a great compliment to the variety of
accommodation available in the market.”
He added: “The potential for this Grade II listed building was
always immense. Special consideration during the design process was
given to many of the hidden features we incorporated back into the
space.
“Hopefully, the redesign and of course the fantastic location means
the creative industry and others will find the redevelopment a very
attractive proposition.”
“Once again it goes to show that if developers opt for design teams
who understand the complexity of buildings such as this, and treat
the work sympathetically, there is huge potential in existing
stock."
Office fit out specialist, Overbury was appointed to refurbish the
project, to create high quality, character office space in existing
city centre accommodation.
The project, expected to be completed by July, incorporates a
stunning remodelled entrance and reception area with imaginatively
refurbished office suites and common areas.
Overbury’s Northern managing director, Paul Brown said: “The
refurbishment of existing, but tired and outdated space is an
increasingly popular option for tenants looking for a high quality
office at a central Manchester address.
