Premier Burrell - Glasgow Architects Land Prestigious Contract To Restore Historic Victorian Warehouses

In the heart of the City of Glasgow, in an area which is a growing cultural quarter centred on the Lighthouse, urban regeneration experts Premier Burrell, has brought in renowned architects Gordon Murray + Alan Dunlop Architects for the £10m refurbishment of a collection of rundown Victorian Glasgow warehouses and the provision of a ten-storey new build mixed use development on the adjacent gap site.
Premier Burrell, a joint venture between The Premier Property Group and The Burrell Company will work with the Glasgow based architects to design the ambitious city centre residential and office development named the Vienna Apartments. Nestled between the city’s Mitchell and Union Street, Vienna Apartments, named by the architects for its close proximity to one of the Mackintosh buildings and his association with the Viennese School, will be built in two phases.
The development which is now underway on site, comprises 76 units in a mix of one, two and three bedroom; loft or new-build apartments with penthouses. A mix of commercial and leisure units will be located on the ground floor on Mitchell Street.
Andrew Burrell, managing director of The Burrell Company, said: “This is a very exciting project and we’re delighted to be able to bring this beautiful building back to life.
“Gordon Murray and Alan Dunlop Architects was a natural choice for us, not least as a result of their strong connections with, and love of Glasgow, but also their architectural pedigree will bring some special touches to this project.”
Russell Wilkie of The Premier Property Group added: “Murray Dunlop Architects have a wealth of experience in transforming derelict, unwanted buildings, particularly in Glasgow, and I am confident Vienna Apartments will add to the city’s bustling urban housing renaissance.”
Despite the development being situated in one of Glasgow’s busiest commercial precincts, Murray Dunlop Architects will lead the way in ensuring the Vienna Apartments will be an oasis of calm due to a number of special features. In phase one flats will include a number of Victorian light wells and atriums to capture light and in phase two the property will feature a floor-to-ceiling glass wall facing onto the Lighthouse and hardwood timber floors with private terraces.
Gordon Murray said: “Premier Burrell has created some of the country’s most innovative and sought after housing developments, which have often acted as catalyst for regeneration of sectors of the city and we have been collaborating with them for sometime to realise this impressive and exciting project, which will regenerate a significant quarter of the city-enhancing and encouraging city centre dwelling.”

Chard Construction have been appointed as the contractor for Phase One of this prestigious development and Xircon Ltd have been appointed as the contractor for the Second phase.
The development is located on Mitchell Street, Glasgow. The first properties are due to be released for sale this February.
