The Frame People (M/cr) Ltd has helped WT Gunson, a property management company in Manchester, added a touch of sparkle to its properties when it fitted over 300 reversible windows.

Since completing the project in South Manchester, the windows have a real sparkle thanks to the quick and safe cleaning provided by the reversible system.

The windows were fabricated by The Frame People, a Eurocell fabricator based in Salford and installed by City Glass, located in Manchester.

WT Gunson owns and manages a large number of property investments across the region and therefore needed a window that provided a safe cleaning operation for its own facilities management teams. In addition, the new windows had to be low maintenance and add to the aesthetic appeal of its buildings.

The decision makers at WT Gunson had seen The Frame People’s reversible window fitted on some of Salford Council’s high rise buildings. This, along with its own research into low maintenance and easy to clean windows, resulted in the decision to specify The Frame People’s reversible window.

The residential development had previously been fitted with timber casement windows. However, as well as having to use ladders, scaffold and poles for cleaning and regular maintenance, WT Gunson had concerns with their thermal efficiency. After contacting The Frame People, the company quickly realised that its reversible window would address all these issues.

The Frame People’s reversible window, which uses Eurocell’s profile system, allows the pane to slide and tilt through 180 degrees, making it easy and safe to clean from inside the property. In addition, the innovative design of the window allows the pane to slide and tilt outside the building envelope, so there is no disruption to curtains, blinds or ornaments on the window cill.

The durability and longevity of PVC-U overcame the ongoing maintenance concerns of WT Gunson as the material achieves a Reference Service Life (RSL) rating of at least 35 years, as recognised by the BRE. This confirms that cellular PVC products provide a cost effective, sustainable and durable solution.

The Frame People’s reversible window system is designed with appealing aesthetics, due to its enhanced sight lines. This is provided by the fully bevelled frames and sashes that create a slim visual profile. Again for WT Gunson, this retained the visual appeal of the development for building users and potential investors.

For additional safety, the reversible window incorporates child-safety catches that restrict the aperture so that children cannot fall through, while still allowing high levels of ventilation.

With a 70mm front to back dimension, the system provided a straightforward installation on the South Manchester development as it was a direct replacement to the existing timber windows. This avoided the time consuming and expensive plasterwork that can sometimes be required when new frames are a different dimension.
