Tarkett’s new Safetred Spectrum safety tiles have been selected by Newham Homes for a major refurbishment project in East Ham, London. The first phase comprises 18 high-rise blocks with a total of 510m2 of Tarkett safety tiles being installed throughout the entrance halls and communal areas.

Total Flooring Contractors of Loughton, Essex are carrying out the installation of the new flooring, as Manager Stuart Fleming explained: “Newham Homes wanted a new, modern product for their refurbishment programme, but it also had to be hard-wearing and safe. We recommended Tarkett’s safety tile as its brand new and the only one of its kind on the market. It provides safety underfoot for the communal areas in the residential blocks and is available in a good range of colours. Thanks to the tile format, it’s also much easier to install than sheet vinyl, particularly in the cold weather.”

Safetred Spectrum tiles are ideal for any environment where safety underfoot is required, having an R10 slip resistance rating. Tiles are manufactured to EN13845 ensuring the slip performance is sustained throughout the product’s life. Packaged in boxes of 16, each tile is 500x500mm, giving up to 4m2 of coverage. They are quick and simple to install being lightweight and less bulky to work with. Since no welding is required, they are also fast to fit meaning less disruption for residents.

The new tiles feature a backing made from recycled flooring which helps to increase their dimensional stability. Tiles are easier to cut to the desired shape and generally create less installation waste in awkwardly shaped locations compared to sheet floorcoverings. As part of the Safetred Spectrum range, they also benefit from Safety Clean PUR surface protection for greater resistance to soiling and staining and easier cleaning.

Manufactured at Tarkett’s plant in Lenham, Kent, the new Safetred Spectrum tiles are readily available. There are 9 colour options to choose from, each designed to complement any interior environment. Their unique tile format offers greater freedom to create detailed designs, even in small areas, as different colours can be mixed and matched to great effect.
