Prior to the installation of new window and door frames, it is common for an ‘open’ reveal cavity to be exposed when original frames are removed. This commonly occurs in properties built up until the mid 1960’s - representing the greater proportion of homes now having replacement frames fitted.

If no provision to thermally improve and close the open cavity accompanies the replacement frames, the resultant new installation will fail to raise the thermal, acoustic and air tightness behaviour of the arrangement.

The Type RC Refurbishment Closer provides a means to introduce such improvement, quickly and cost-effectively.

Introduction
The Type RC Refurbishment Cavicloser fills the reveal cavity exposed when a window or doorframe is removed from a cavity wall. The Type RC has a rigid faceplate to which is attached a compressible polythene sleeve containing a flexible insulating medium. This flexibility permits the sleeve to be compressed and easily introduced into an open cavity. As the compression releases the sleeve expands to take up the cavity width encountered. The faceplate spans and closes the cavity, straddling both skins of the cavity wall. (Installers caulking adhesive may be used to secure and seal to masonry).

In addition to the physical closing of the opening cavity and the beneficial thermal zoning of the reveal, the insulating medium interrupts the direct sound path that previously existed where the frame meets the cavity and an acoustic improvement is usual.

The Type RC is supplied in 2400mm lengths and may be used in applications where the exposed cavity width is between 40mm –100mm.
