Following the installation of T5 lighting from Riegens, The Retail
Supply Group (RSG) is living proof that a simple change to
fluorescent lighting can now offer a cost effective alternative to
HID luminaires for high bay applications in warehouses. The
refurbishment, financed by a Carbon Trust loan, has allowed the
company to install the new lighting quickly and efficiently,
providing immediate savings in energy and costs.
Within RSG sits Glopac, a well established packaging supplier to
major UK retailers, and Greenpac, a fast growing pioneer in
environmentally solutions across both packaging and textiles. It was
clearly appropriate that a company with such strong green product
credentials should seek to behave in an environmentally responsible
way in all areas of its operations.
The task therefore was to explore all the options for re-lighting
the warehouse to provide a new lighting scheme that would comply
with the CIBSE guidelines for warehouse lighting, but at the same
time reduce energy consumption. Results of investigative work
demonstrated that by changing the existing 400W metal halide lamps
to Riegens HB-ECO 4 x 54W fluorescent fittings using 4000K colour
temperature tubes, significant savings could be achieved.
Part of the Riegens power saving “ECO” range, the HB fittings are
controlled via occupancy and daylight sensors to minimise running
costs.
Designed for surface mounting or suspension, HB-ECO provides
excellent vertical illuminance thanks to dedicated asymmetric
reflectors that provide optimum light distribution. Available with
lamp packages designed to suit any installation, HB ECO comes in two
or four lamp options, with a choice of 40W, 50W or 80W PLL lamps for
large open areas, and all T5 variants for storage areas. Control
gear options of HF, 1-10V analogue and DALI dimming or dimming with
integral PIR sensor are available with other options including 3hour
emergency on request.
Following the installation, Liam Knowles, a Director for Greenpac
commented “We are delighted with the significant increase in light
levels, coupled with immediate energy savings achieved through this
replacement system which is fully in line with and reinforces
Greenpac’s philosophy. Riegens were recommended to us by a previous
major retail client and we are particularly impressed with the
comprehensive savings the Riegens HB ECO system we have selected
offers through its combination of movement and daylight sensors. By
taking advantage of The Carbon Trust government grant, we have
identified significant projected energy savings providing an
anticipated payback calculation of up to 3 years maximum”.
