The Henry Beaufort School in Winchester has recently benefited from
the installation of Tarkett sports flooring to its drama facilities.
The school is a mixed comprehensive for 11-16 year olds, designated
as a specialist technology college. The Beacon Arts Centre is the
school’s base for Art, Drama and Music and features modern,
well-equipped facilities. Tarkett sports flooring was chosen to
replace the worn-out carpets in the two drama rooms to provide a
high performance, durable and attractive finish.
Floor Sure carried out the installation of around 200m2 of Tarkett’s
Omnisports Reference flooring throughout the two drama rooms, which
can be opened up into one large studio via a folding wall. “We
prepared the subfloor with a primer and self-levelling latex before
laying the Omnisports surface and welding the joints”, explained
Darren Cooper of Floor Sure. “The finished result looks excellent
and the school are extremely pleased”, he added.
Tarkett’s Omnisports Reference is a specialist indoor sports
surface, developed for all levels of sports competition, that
complies with the requirements of the European Standard EN 14904. It
features a fibreglass mesh backing that offers optimal indentation
resistance and low internal stress levels within the playing
surface, distributing the stress evenly. It may also be loose-laid,
enabling the flooring to be recycled at end of life and the subfloor
to be reused without further preparation.
When fully bonded, as at Henry Beaufort School, Omnisports Reference
provides 27% impact absorption, and 26% when loose-laid. The surface
is treated with TopClean XP, a polyurethane treatment that provides
additional wear resistance and that helps to reduce maintenance
costs, limiting the consumption of water, detergents and energy
needed for cleaning.
Tarkett’s Omnisports range is available in a choice of 4 thicknesses
to satisfy varying degrees of shock absorption and performance
requirements. There are a wide variety of colour options to choose
from, including several wood effect finishes that are ideal for
areas such as drama studios and assembly halls where visual
appearance may be as important as performance. All Omnisports floors
are composed of at least 20-25% recycled material to further enhance
their environmental profile. The new flooring at Henry Beaufort
School has already been put to good use by students rehearsing for
their 30 minute production of Shakespeare’s ‘As You Like It’, which
they later performed as part of the Shakespeare Schools Festival in
Eastleigh.
