A co-educational special school located in the North Yorkshire
market town of Skipton has replaced the old fibre cement
slate-effect roof tiles on its existing timber frame with
Meta-Slate®, an innovative slate-effect metal roofing sheet system
from building products manufacturer Steadmans.
Brookland School’s new roof combines the traditional appearance of
natural slate with the advantages of today’s lightweight,
pre-engineered roofing materials. Steadmans supplied over 4,000 lin
metres of Meta-Slate® to replace four monopitch roofs on buildings
set out in a quadrangle at the school.
The company also supplied matching flashings and dry verges to
provide a total external roof envelope with an attractive
traditional profile. Insulation and a breather membrane was
installed under the Meta-Slate® to ensure thermal efficiency.
Ideal for both refurb and new build applications, Steadmans’
Meta-Slate® benefits from a long-lasting Nova finish and is easy to
fit due to a combination of its light weight and simple secret fix
joint system. Weighing only 6 kg/m2, Meta-Slate® roof panels require
less substructure when compared to traditional slates and can be
fitted onto both steel and timber roof structures.
To enhance its flexibility, the Meta-Slate® system can also be
fitted directly over Steadmans AS35 insulated panels for warm roof
applications.
