Knauf Insulation has been recognised for the Knauf Insulation
Internal Wall Insulation (IWI) System, in the Construction Products
Association’s 2010 edition of Construction Products Innovation and
Achievement (CPIA).
The system, which achieved a place in the Energy and Carbon Saving
category, is one of only 20 products nationwide to be chosen for
this year’s publication, which annually showcases the most
innovative products and processes created by the construction
products industry during the last twelve months.
Phil Rigby, Knauf Insulation Product Manager for Northern Europe,
said: “We are very pleased to have been chosen for this year’s CPIA
publication. Our Internal Wall Insulation System is an efficient
solution to one of the construction industry’s most important
challenges, providing a highly cost effective way of achieving
increased energy efficiency for solid wall buildings. It is very
important that our industry recognises and showcases innovation and
we are grateful that the CPIA 2010 does this.”
The innovative EcoStud and Earthwool® EcoBatt glass mineral wool
system has been designed for upgrading existing solid external walls
quickly and easily, with minimum disruption to occupants. The
EcoStud is a laminate of extruded polystyrene and OSB (Oriented
Strand Board) and is a replacement for the traditional use of
thermally bridged timber or metal studs. The installation of the IWI
system is simple and allows a competent builder to install and
finish the system using a traditional plaster skim finish or dry
lining techniques. No scaffolding is required and the system can be
installed on a room-by-room basis, or as part of a whole house
refurbishment plan.
Commenting on the system’s inclusion in the CPIA publication, Simon
Storer, Communications and External Affairs Director for the
Construction Products Association, said: “We are delighted that the
construction products industry has once again demonstrated an
enormous desire to introduce new and exciting solutions. Despite the
construction industry suffering more than most sectors during the
current downturn, one only needs to look at the products and
processes showcased in CPIA to highlight the huge impact the
industry is making towards change.”
