Regupol 4515 Eco, the high performance yet competitively priced
impact sound solution from CMS Acoustics, has been installed at The
Heights, Bedford, a conversion of the former BT Tower office block
into apartments. Specialist subcontractor, Westbury Carpets
installed Regupol 4515 Eco to achieve cost effective Part E
compliance when converting the commercial premises into dwellings.
Composed of recycled rubber crumb and cork, Regupol 4515 Eco is a
versatile acoustic underlay and widely specified for residential
developments. A highly sustainable product, it offers zero Global
Warming Potential (GWP) and zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP),
boasting no environmental impact during the manufacturing process.
Due for completion in April 2011, the BT Tower refurbishment is part
of a wider improvement programme to regenerate Bedford’s famous
embankment by development experts, Birmingham Properties Group. A
mixture of 109 private residential and social housing properties,
The Heights required a cost effective impact sound system that could
be installed quickly and easily in all apartments within the 13
storey building.
As the construction programme scheduled installation of the acoustic
underlay on a floor-by-floor basis, Westbury Carpets needed a
manufacturer that could fulfil a large quantity order and deliver
the material to site at the required intervals. With the ability to
offer next day delivery nationwide on stock items, CMS Acoustics
supplied 3,000m² of 3mm Regupol 4515 Eco over a number of weeks.
A flexible specification, Regupol 4515 Eco is compatible for use
with both concrete and timber based constructions. The impact sound
solution also delivers effective acoustic performance under a wide
range of floor finishes, which in this instance included carpet and
ceramic tiles. Furthermore, supplied in standard thicknesses of 3mm
and 4.5mm, Regupol 4515 Eco effectively keeps construction heights
to a minimum, crucial in maintaining floor to ceiling heights in
building renovations.
Roger Campbell, Westbury Carpets, commented: “CMS Acoustics has been
extremely flexible and supplied Regupol 4515 Eco to accommodate the
overall build programme. Furthermore, its specialist technical team
provided professional advice enabling us to specify Regupol 4515 Eco
with the confidence that Part E guidelines would be met regardless
of the final floor finish in the apartments.”
Available exclusively nationwide through CMS Acoustics, the UK’s
largest provider of acoustic solutions, Regupol 4515 Eco offers an
effective method of sound insulation by attenuating impact sound at
source. The acoustic underlay is available in rolls of 20m and 12m.
Paul Absolon, technical director, CMS Acoustics, concluded: “When
specifying an acoustic underlay, a key consideration for developers
of multi-storey refurbishments is the ease of installation and
handling combined with guaranteed impact sound control. Regupol 4515
Eco is supplied in easy to handle rolls and is quick and simple to
install. As with all acoustic solutions in our portfolio, Regupol
4515 Eco has been rigorously tested over time, demonstrating its
ability to offer superior sound insulation for the duration of the
installation without the risk of ageing or deformation.”
