AERON is a company who deliver complete ventilation and air
conditioning systems (HVAC) to ships. Their main office is located
in Flekkefjord, Norway and there is a subsidiary company in
Shanghai. AERON operate on a global basis and deliver HVAC systems
around the world via sales agents, some of whom are also certified
to provide local service.
The relationship between Danfoss Drives and AERON was established
approximately 10 years ago. AERON using frequency converters for the
first time was seen as a big innovation and increased the quality
image of our products. By using frequency converters to control the
fans, we increased the precision of the regulation of the air volume
in proportion to the pressure in the ventilation system.
A ship that operates world wide must have a HVAC system designed to
cope with “worst case scenario”, facing tropical heat temperatures
above 40°C or very cold climates with temperatures way below 0°C.
Achieving a nice climate indoors in the tropics requires much more
cooling/air volume than in a “normal” climatic environment. A
frequency converter can easily regulate the air volume
automatically.
Using frequency converters will save energy, reduce noise and
improve the climate indoors. It will also make it easier for the
customer to reduce or switch off the air flow in some parts of the
ship if rooms/cabins are not in use.
AERON use frequency controlled fans in accommodation rooms,
technical rooms and in the machine room. The drives can keep a
constant over pressure in the machine room and supply the room with
an air volume according to the requirement of the motor. This
results in energy savings and a nice climate in the machine room.
Today’s modern offshore ships have a lot of technical equipment
which produce a lot of heat. Controlling the temperature by using
frequency converters gives you a flexible solution, the air volume
and cooling requirement can be adapted to the outside temperature
and power loss from the technical equipment. You save energy and
reduce the use of cooling equipment or reduce admission of saline
air which can damage technical equipment.
95% of all projects Aeron is involved in are delivered with one or
more frequency converters, both onshore and offshore. Many years ago
only a few ships were equipped with drives, but now this is standard
world wide.
Danfoss frequency converters have an intuitive menu with a full text
display which is a big advantage compared to other drives suppliers
who use number codes instead of text.
Aeron is a global company and it is important for Danfoss to

delivery times. Danfoss has a very good service network which makes
it possible for our service technicians to get in contact with
Danfoss customers wherever they are in the world.
Some of Aeron’s projects need special adaptations in certain
applications which are pre-programmed by Danfoss. The FC102 has a
built in smart logic controller which makes it possible to add
advanced functions.
